Why it matters

A roof is the most important investment in your property

It keeps the weather out, protects the frame and sets how your home looks from the street. We treat it that way: proper preparation, the right steel for your site, and flashings detailed to last.

Our work

We are proud of our work

Drag the slider to see what a full re-roof changes: new COLORSTEEL, new underlay, new flashings and new spouting.

Most re-roofs take a few days on site once materials arrive. Read about re-roofing, tile to metal or decramastic replacement.

Locations

Roofers across Christchurch

We work across every region, from Rangiora and Kaiapoi in the north to Rolleston, Lincoln and the Port Hills.

After the 2011 earthquake, a report from New Zealand science and engineering societies recommended replacing heavy concrete tile roofs with lightweight materials such as steel. If your home still has a heavy tile roof, ask us about tile to metal re-roofing.

Common questions

Roofing questions, answered

More in our roofing FAQs and the roof replacement cost guide.

Do I need a building consent to re-roof in Christchurch?

Often not. Schedule 1 of the Building Act exempts replacing a building product with a comparable one in the same position. A consent can be needed if you change material, alter the structure, or replace a roof that has failed to meet the Building Code's durability requirements. Exempt work must still comply with the Building Code.

Is tile to metal a comparable material?

Not automatically. Whether a different roofing material counts as comparable is a judgement that depends on the job, and your council (Christchurch City, Selwyn District or Waimakariri District Council) has the final say. We check this for your house before quoting and apply for consent where it is needed.

What is restricted building work, and does it apply to roofing?

Restricted building work is residential work that is critical to a home's structure or weathertightness, and roofing falls within it when the work needs a building consent. That work must be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner with the right licence class.

What is an LBP roofing licence?

Licensed Building Practitioners can hold a roofing licence, which is split into areas of practice such as profiled metal roofing, metal tile, concrete or clay tile, membranes, and shingles or slate. Ask your roofer which areas they are licensed in, and check the public LBP register.

What Building Code clauses apply to roofs?

The main ones are E2 External Moisture, which covers keeping water out, and B2 Durability, which requires roof cladding to last at least 15 years and flashings that cannot be replaced without removing the cladding to last 50 years. The NZ Metal Roof and Wall Cladding Code of Practice sets out how metal roofs are installed to meet them.

Do I need a Code Compliance Certificate after a re-roof?

Only if the work had a building consent. In that case the council inspects and issues a Code Compliance Certificate when it is satisfied. Exempt re-roofs do not get one, so keep the quote, invoice, product details and photos with your house records.
